When I went home from work on Wednesday, the temperature in the van registered 39°C (over 100F). Of course the sun was radiating off the parking lot, but when I got home it was still 37°C. I don't recall ever seeing temperatures this high.
Yesterday it seemed we were going to get a lot of rain, which we did around lunch time. At 4:30 everything was bone dry again.
Today was windy and only 25, but around 8PM we got a thunderstorm with a tropical downpour. Now, at 8:40, it's all sunny again...

Had police cars along with a fire engine and an ambulance just north of our complex after 10PM. Two cars were totalled and it's not clear if this was a high-speed chase.

It was a full moon 10 days ago, so that's not it... What am I babbling about?
Yesterday when I came home from work, there were 2 police cruisers with lights on parked a block away. Seems they had stopped a blue car after a chase.
Then at about 3:30 this morning, I woke up due to a bunch of young people (I'm guessing 10 or 12) yapping away in the playground 2 houses away. Even after putting in earplugs, I could still hear them. Looked like they had been drinking or doing drugs. About 4AM a police cruiser showed up. It seems my neighbour had gotten ticked off and taken the purse of one of the girls. What was she thinking? One of those kids had a sword on them. After another neighbour came out with a baseball bat they had all taken off toward the freeway. The police helicopter was quickly on the scene and about an hour later, 5 young people were in custody. Police dogs are great. That animal was so pumped, everybody was told to back up when they let him out of the car. The cops had to run when that dog caught the trail.
The only damage done was when one of these "kids" popped the back window in a neighbour's van.

Canada Day vs. Dominion Day is much like Klondike Days vs. Capital EX. But at least the Klondike Days vs. Capital EX issue should not be an issue next year.
With Capital EX now underway, people find it necessary to complain about the new name for Edmonton's largest summer event. Why do they complain? They don't like the name...
Major blame is given to Northlands' marketing department for picking a stupid name. However, they pretty much stayed out of the renaming. It was done by independent brand specialists who collected input from the community. The same with changing Northlands PARK to just Northlands.
People assume it was the marketing department without knowing the facts, even though it has been explained at press conferences.
I guess journalists don't report facts anymore, just what they think they hear...

Well, Capital EX is half way over. I am glad I was not working the 3 days with over 30 degree temperatures, yet I had to endure them at home. It seems that 20-25 degree temps bring the best crowds.

Lilies
Got most of my hybridizing done this weekend. With the extreme heat, most lilies are fading fast and I'm not sure how well my crosses are taking. We'll find out in a few months I guess.
