Lilies
Today I feel sad, because a very dear friend has quit the lily business. I can't reveal who, until he has made his own announcement, but he will be severely missed in the lily community.

Family
This is Thanksgiving weekend in Canada, a time for family to get together. We spent a wonderful afternoon and evening at Duncan and Monica's and everyone brought some food.
It was fun to watch the grandkids play together.
So many things to be thankful for, especially considering the heart problems I had a year ago...

North Korea going nuclear does not bother me much. What bothers me is that nobody in North Korea is allowed to know the truth.
According to reports, North Koreans are denied cell phone traffic and Internet access. Now THAT and nuclear power is a dangerous combination, in my not so humble opinion...

Humour
Watching CBC because I was too lazy to change the channel. CBC features a good number of comedy shows, but this one is my kind of guy: Russell Peters.

Cancer
Just heard good news that a friend passed his colonoscopy test. This was his 5-year test. A testament that colon cancer can be beaten. Thanks, P, for sharing.
Bill is going in for scar tissue removal next month. Radiation caused scar tissue in his plumbing...

Cooking, recipes, diet, etc.
I am a bit puzzled and hope someone can help me with this question...
A few weeks ago, I did a deer/moose (not sure, the package did not specify) roast in the slow cooker. Cooked for about 6 hours and was still very tough. Did another one and cooked it overnight (12 hours on low) and it turned out very tender.
So I figured that the longer I cook a piece of meat, the more tender it gets. Wrong! Cooked pork stew for 10 hours on low, as I had it dry out before, even with lots of liquids. After 10 hours, there was no difference, still dry. I had hoped it would start to fall apart and pick up some of the liquids.
Advice anybody?

Announcements
We're now far enough into the development of a new website for the Kemerinks' business, that we can tell the world about it.
A Taste of Dutch is a mailorder company of Dutch products. Eventually the owner wants on-line shopping, but we had to start by showing people what is available. Have a look at www.atasteofdutch.com.

Daylight Saving Time was first observed in the United States during World War I and then again during World War II. The time change was enacted to provide more light in the evening hours.
Since 1987, Daylight Saving Time has begun at 2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in April and has ended at 2:00 A.M. on the last Sunday in October. Be aware, there will be a change next year. Daylight Saving Time will start on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November.
Change your clock this coming Sunday!

Cancer
I just found out that an acquaintance from Holland passed away from lung cancer on October 10th.
Jan was well known on the newsgroup alt.binaries.pictures.gardens for his photos of flowers, nature scenes around Amsterdam, and his three Blue Russian cats, Kees, Bram, and Peter.
Jan has taught us many techniques on photo composition.
He will be missed by many...

While a weather change was predicted, it still "hits you in the face" when it does happen.
This morning we woke up to several cm of snow (a bit more than an inch). We were not expecting snow until this evening, but now (11PM) it is coming down hard.
I guess gardening is done for the next six months... More time to spend on other things, such as websites...

A message was left on voice mail at work on Saturday, October 28, indicating that "[I] will be in a cemetery by tomorrow or the next couple of days."
The caller was not very clear spoken and gave me the impression of intoxication. Apparently I am a target by the Lutheran church in Hamburg and something about building some gigantic seafood establishment in the fatherland.
I was about to dismiss this as a crank call, but one of my co-workers indicated that more people at Northlands have received these kinds of calls, so I called Security and am saving a recording of the voice message for further investigation.
The call came from a cell phone in Chico California, according to a White Pages (www.whitepages.com) reverse phone lookup, and our security staff is in contact with California detectives, who are trying to track this nut down.
A .wav recording of the message will be attached in a comment later today.
