Dutch gym to introduce "Naked Sunday" for naturists

Self-conscious about what you wear while working out? A Dutch gym plans to introduce "Naked Sunday" for people who like to huff and puff in the buff.

Patrick de Man, owner of Fitworld gym in the town of Heteren, said he got the idea in part from two of his customers who are avid nudists.

"I heard that some other gyms are offering courses on 'pole-dancing' as a sport, so I thought: Why not bring something new to the market?" de Man said.

He said the response had been overwhelming - positive and negative.

R&R Update

Tech - Web Development

New menu

Finished the styling of the blog site (I think). If you find any pages with an inconsistent style, please send me a message (under the OTHER menu section).

I had a comment that the green I had up this past week was too sombre. I agree, so here is a brighter look. Wink

The site has not been tested under IE 6 or lower and I am given to understand that the menu looks spaced out. It is supposed to look like this screenshot...

Dutch Spammer Fined

Technology

A spammer, whom authorities say emailed at least 9 billion unwanted advertisements, faces a hefty fine.

Dutch authorities have fined an unidentified man $US97,000 for sending "unsolicited electronic messages to consumers to promote erection enhancement pills, pornographic websites, sex products and such," the country's telecommunications watchdog "OPTA" said Friday.

FAQ Updated

Tech - Web Development

Updated the crappy look of the help section. Now to fix the bulleted lists (see January 12th post, for example).

Made the main panel a bit paler blue. Yesterday's version had a bit of a pinkish tint to it. Check out the slick Sliding Color Picker. A very cool tool.

Recipes

Cooking, recipes, diet, etc.

My first web application was my recipes site. Apparently I started it March 2005, although it seems much longer ago. It was a great experience because it combined my love of cooking with new technology.

The last half year, interest has declined. I think the site is still relevant (due for a major overhaul), but I need to know what YOU think. Do you want specialty categories? Do you need other things?

I am open to suggestions to re-develop the site but unless I get feedback, the site will go off-line.

Please leave your comments.

Laptop Troubles (Again)

Technology

The Dell laptop is behaving silly again, slowing down even when nothing is running.

I initially thought it was only the hard drive, which I rebuilt several times, but now the clock does not keep proper time. This might be a motherboard problem. The wireless has been flaky for about half a year also.

Perhaps it's time to start looking at a new laptop, rather than trying to get it fixed. It's been running almost 3 years 24/7, so I can't really complain. I just complain that I have to spend money again...

Is It Spring?

General

Wonderful spring-like weather is a welcome break from the cold. My back especially appreciates it. Smile

I'm sure we'll get some cold weather yet, but I'm not complaining. Every day I don't need to take painkillers is a wonderful day!

WWF About Global Warming

Rants

WWF's SaveOurClimate website is only intended for a specific audience.

If you don't have a Flash player installed, don't have 1024x768, and block popup windows, you cannot access the site. When we talk about irresponsible use of resources, I suggest WWF is irresponsible also, failing to get the message out to as many people as intended.

Clicking on the DONATE button does not do a thing.

All in all, while I admire the effort, the website is cute but not effective. I cannot even leave a feedback note...

Vox Blogging

Technology

For a long time blogger.com was the place for people wanting to put up a blog.

Now there's a new game in town, VOX.com with many more sharing options. Just check a few sites to get an idea of nice design. Kit Carino's blog is a nice example.

City Of Edmonton Tax Money

Rants

Why is the City of Edmonton even considering building a new hockey arena downtown? If Rexall needs a facelift, it's a lot cheaper than building a new facility.

There are many pressing issues facing Edmonton. Affordable housing, infrastructure maintenance, crime...

Just this week I was told by a police officer that our neighborhood  was a "world onto it's own."

My son has helped catch a 12-year old who's repeatedly been going on joy rides.

I think this city needs to look at social issues more before spending money on arts and sports.

Farmers Almanac

Environment and Weather

So far the Farmers Almanac has predicted our winter weather reasonably accurately.

Winter temperatures will be about 2 degrees colder than normal, on average. Precipitation and snowfall will be near or slightly below normal in Alberta, and above normal in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The coldest temperatures will occur in early and mid-December, early and late January, and early and mid- to late February. The heaviest widespread snowfalls will occur in mid-December, in late January, and in early to mid-February.
April and May will be a bit warmer than normal, on average, with above-normal precipitation.
Summer temperatures will be near or slightly below normal, on average, ...

Global Warming must be happening elsewhere...
